Release time:2023-11-27 15:36:35

At the invitation of Professor Yang Yongchun from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Key Laboratory of Western Environmental Education of the Ministry of Education, Professor Céline ROZENBLAT from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, delivered an academic lecture for teachers and students of our college on November 18, 2023. The lecture was titled 'Cities Resilience and Transitions: From Local Digital Twins to Global Complex Urban Systems. The lecture was hosted by Professor Yang Yongchun from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University. It was conducted through an online conference broadcast, with a simultaneous offline venue set up in Room 1408 of the Observation Cloud Building at Lanzhou University. Over 100 participants from Lanzhou University, as well as other relevant universities and research institutes, attended the lecture.

Professor Céline ROZENBLAT covered three main aspects during the lecture:1) Localization of Urban Digitization: Examining how localized cities undergo digitization under the context of connections between natural and social systems, as well as exploring individual urban systems within the digital framework.2) Utilizing Complexity Models & Digital-Driven Models & Coupled Models: Exploring sustainable development from the perspective of digitized networks, incorporating complexity models, digital-driven models, and coupled models.3) From Micro to Urban Agglomerations: Illustrating urban transitions and resilience from a micro to city-cluster scale, with examples from cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Russia, thereby studying global network systems across scales. In a clear and insightful manner, the lecture delved into the question of how cities undergo transformation from a multidisciplinary perspective on network dynamics.

After the lecture, Professor Céline ROZENBLAT engaged in extensive discussions with the attending teachers and students on topics such as a city's resilience against risks in interrupted situations and the relationship between localization and globalization in specific regions.

Expert Profile:

Céline ROZENBLAT is a Professor of Urban Geography at the University of Lausanne, Director of the Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD), Vice President of the International Geographical Union (IGU), and has been a Member of the Committee on Urban Health and Well-being of the International Science Council (ISC) for four years. Her research focuses on the multilayered processes and dynamic evolution of urban systems in networked city systems. She has established numerous interwoven network databases concerning large European and global cities and their formations. Her work encompasses evolutionary economic geography, urban system science, and the study of urban attributes and their evolution from multidimensional and long time-series perspectives, providing policy recommendations for urban policies.
