Professor Yong Luo Delivers Lecture on "Introduction to Cryospheric Science" for Undergraduate Students at the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences

On November 20, 2023, Professor Yong Luo from Tsinghua University, at the invitation of Professor Mou Cuicui of the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University, conducted an online lecture for undergraduate students of the 21st cohort. The lecture focused on "Introduction to Cryospheric Science."

Professor Luo provided a comprehensive and detailed exploration of cryospheric component models and estimations of cryospheric changes. The topics covered included climate system models, cryospheric component models, process simulations of the cryosphere, and climate change attribution. Drawing on the latest advancements in research, he systematically introduced climate change estimations and predictions related to cryospheric elements such as sea ice, snow cover, and permafrost.

Speaker Profile:

Professor Yong Luo is the Director and Professor of the Department of Earth System Science at Tsinghua University. His research primarily revolves around climate change, water, and renewable energy. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the World Climate Research Program/Climate and Cryosphere China National Committee, Vice Chairman of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics/International Glaciological Society China National Committee, Vice Chairman (Designate) of the China Cryosphere Science Society, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Progress in Climate Change Research." Professor Luo is also a Coordinating Lead Author for the Asia chapter in the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II and the Principal Investigator of the Key Special Project of the National Key Research and Development Program, "Global Change and Response."
